Martin Coyd was Regional Head of Environment, Health & Safety for Europe at Lend Lease, the Australian based international infrastructure, property and development company. Prior to this Martin was at Skanska where he spent 11 years as Senior Health & Safety Manager at the outstanding Swedish organisation.
Beginning in the construction industry as a chain-boy for Fairclough Tunnelling as a sixteen-year-old, Martin then spent 18 years in the Royal Engineers, as a soldier and as an instructor at the Royal School of Military Engineering.
Martin has a wealth of experience in Health, Safety & Wellbeing and has a huge passion for the Health and Wellbeing element of his roles, Chairing the UKCG (now Build UK) Health Group, and also, chairing the Public Health Responsibility Deal (PHRD) Construction Group for The Department of Health.
Martin has had the privilege of working on the development, construction and operation of some of the most iconic buildings and places in the UK and Europe and has a huge passion for the built environment; particularly about how we can improve it.
Outside of work Martin has a passion for Rugby League, still playing at 51, and was a member of The Rugby League Council and The Rugby League Community Board. He is Manager of the England Wheelchair Rugby League Team and led them into the Rugby League World Cup in 2013 and to become the European Champions in 2015.
He trained as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and delivers courses around the country for those involved in Construction and also Rugby League. Martin is currently leading on the introduction of a UK nationwide Mental Health Programme for the Construction Industry
Martin was awarded the OBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours List.
