David is a consultant and highly experienced CEO, lawyer, strategist, speaker, writer, facilitator, investigator, mediator and coach in EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion), disability and human rights in football and education. Until recently, he was Chief Executive of Equality Challenge Unit (which merged to become Advance HE), the UK higher education sector’s equality and diversity, policy and research agency. Since January 2017, David has also been the equality adviser to the English FA Premier (soccer) League. He was a practicing solicitor for 21 years, latterly as the first Director of Legal Policy at the Equality and Human Rights Commission of Great Britain and before that as a partner at Levenes Solicitors. He is a Trustee of Action on Disability and Development and a co-opted member of the Rights & Justice Committee of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. David was listed in the first, second and current Disability Power List, May 2017 – page 43 of one of three shortlisted for the Law Society’s Gazette Centenary Award for Lifetime Achievement – Human Rights, in November 2003; and winner of RADAR’s (now Disability Rights UK) People of the Year Award for Achievement in the Furtherance of Human Rights of Disabled People in the UK, 2002.
